Dry Mechanical Cladding

This is a method of stone fixing. What are the advantages and disadvantages of dry (or mechanical) cladding over wet cladding for stone facades in buildings?Some of the benefits are :

» The dry cladding method is safe and chances of stone falling down at a later date is remote.
» Method allow for expansion and contraction of stone in extreme weather conditions.
» The dry cladding method creates a gap of around 30 to 200 mm in between back wall and stone lining, providing a layer of air cushion that acts as a thermal barrier.
» The appearance of stone used in dry cladding work looks aesthetically pleasing. The stone fixed with mortar may change in color due to absorption of water from back mortar layer.
